Southampton striker Danny Ings is set to be fit for England’s upcoming meeting with Denmark despite a reported head clash with a teammate in training.

Via a report from Sky Sports, Ings was involved in a clash of heads with Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier but both players are expected to be available for selection on Tuesday.

Given how important Ings is for Saints and potentially for England, this news will be good to hear for fans.

The 28-year-old claimed a second senior England cap when he came on as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 win over Iceland on Saturday. His first came all the way back in 2015.

Ings’ injury problems were well documented and he has had to overcome two serious knee injuries and a persistent hamstring problem to get back into the international scene, so getting game time at the weekend will have been a relief.

Ahead of the 2020/21 season, Saints will be heavily relying on their main man to score the goals that they need to push up the Premier League table.

More from Saints Marching

Ings plundered 25 goals in the 2019/20 campaign and narrowly lost out on the Premier League’s golden boot come May after proving himself as one of the most dangerous front-men in the top-flight.

At St Mary’s, he is part of a strong homegrown group of players that will surely provide more food for thought for England boss Gareth Southgate into the future.

Ward-Prowse and Ings were the standout players for Saints last season and rightly got the call-up this time around but others can be expected to follow if 2020/21 is a successful one for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team.

Che Adams’ form at the end of 2019/20 proved that he can be a real threat for Saints in front of goal if he hits some consistent form, whilst Nathan Redmond will almost certainly thrive in a successful team setup.

Ryan Bertrand’s age may go against him in future squads but he and Kyle Walker-Peters are integral to Saints’ 4-2-2-2 formation and could be in with a chance if they impress.
