Southampton head back to St Mary’s on Sunday afternoon and will look to carry on their good run of form when they face high-flying Everton.

Saints battled back from 2-0 and 3-2 down to claim a deserved point at Chelsea last time out and have seven points from their last three top-flight fixtures.

Everton look to be a very strong outfit this season and prepared themselves for a push towards Europe with a host of impressive signings in the summer transfer window.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have won four and drawn one so far and sit top of the table at the moment, whilst Saints’ slow start to the season sees them in 12th despite a recent recovery.

Ahead of what could be a very watchable and entertaining game, team news from both camps could provide an indication of who has the strongest options available to them.

Saints look set to be without wingers Moussa Djenepo and Theo Walcott and will hope that Stuart Armstrong can return in good form.

More from Saints Marching

Djenepo continues to struggle with muscle injuries and it appears that Saints have a job on their hands to help the young Malian past these problems as he develops. Walcott is ineligible to face his parent club this weekend.

Armstrong is set to return after a spell of self-isolation following his positive COVID-19 test on international duty – Ralph Hasenhuttl explaining that he had “no further issues” and “feels good”.

If Armstrong is unable to play the full 90 minutes, Nathan Tella could well get more first-team minutes this time around after impressing in a short cameo at Chelsea.

The Saints boss also confirmed that Will Smallbone and Mohammed Salisu will not be available for selection this weekend, with the former injured and the latter still building match fitness.

Everton are waiting on the fitness of star man James Rodriguez for this weekend after a Carlo Ancelotti revealed a haematoma limited his time training this week.

Although the Colombian could be available for selection, Richarlison will not be as he serves a suspension for the red card he received against Liverpool last weekend.

The Toffees will also be without Seamus Coleman, Mason Holgate, Jonjoe Kenny, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Jarrad Branthwaite and Cenk Tosun in what is a sizeable injury list.
