Southampton: Hasenhuttl admits worrying injury concern for Danny Ings
By Marc Walker
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that the injury picked up by striker Danny Ings at Aston Villa could be a bad one.
Ings went down clutching his knee after landing awkwardly in Saints’ 4-3 win at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon and will await the results of a scan to see the damage that has been done.
The 28-year-old contributed with a superb fourth goal for Saints during the game and took his season’s tally to five in the process, but Hasenhuttl was understandably worried after seeing his key man in pain.
Speaking to media post-match – via the Athletic’s Dan Sheldon – Hasenhuttl said:
"“It didn’t look good, to be honest. I hope it’s not too bad. He was immediately shouting, ‘my knee, my knee’. He will have a scan tomorrow.”"
Ings is the main man for Saints and his absence will be felt hugely if he is to be sat in the stands for a long time. The fact that he has had two Anterior Cruciate Ligament injuries in the past will be a worry to medical staff at the club after seeing what happened this time around.

However, this could provide an ideal opportunity for others to step up and fill the void – something that will have to happen if Saints are to have a successful season without their main goalscorer.
Che Adams has recently started to chip in with some goals of his own and could be the man to keep the wins coming for his side.
He has played a supporting role to Ings for most of his time in Hasenhuttl’s team, with his hold-up play and tireless effort for the team not going unnoticed. He also regularly provides assists to Ings who is usually in the right place at the right time.
Now though, he must become that lethal goalscorer himself.
A potential partner to take Ings’ place could be Theo Walcott given that he has a good Premier League scoring record, has played many games as a striker and has the experience to support Adams.
The situation for Saints ahead of their next game versus Newcastle remains to be seen, but potentially being without Ings, Ryan Bertrand and Jan Bednarek will be a sizeable blow.
