Midfielders

James Ward-Prowse, Centre-Midfielder – 9

Broke up the City midfield routinely with his well-timed press.  Took a yellow before the break, but not much changed in his game.  Is the heart and soul of this team and one has to wonder how the Southampton would function without him?

Oriol Romeu, Centre-Midfielder – 9

Would run through a brick wall on the verge of suspension if you told him to.  Was so good in tackling through 37 minutes, but then the yellow was earned after he gave up possession and tried to fix his mistake.  Possession was excellent again and he is drifting into more attacking positions than ever before.  He will be missed versus Fulham.

Moussa Djenepo, Attacking-Midfielder – 7

Oddly effective, but ineffective in the first half.  Best moments were quick switches of the field to Walcott and KWP.  Unhappy to come off before the hour, especially after taking on Kyle Walker to win a corner.  It didn’t help that Redmond was given two very good chances to score minutes later and failed on both spectacularly.

Theo Walcott, Attacking-Midfielder – 9

Theo had an amazing first half as his experience proves invaluable to the success of team.  Running at the back four he almost always created something and Southampton were hard pressed not to score early on.  Looked the most likely to get a goal once Ings exited, but there was no way through.  It is going to be very hard for him to lose his starting position from here on out.
