Southampton: Vital Saints duo pictured back in first-team training today
By Marc Walker
Southampton duo Danny Ings and Oriol Romeu have been pictured back in first-team training today ahead of Saints’ Premier League clash with West Ham.
An official training gallery released on southamptonfc.com showed both players taking part in drills with their teammates in preparation for tomorrow’s meeting with the Hammers.
Team news has not been released for this game but it appears that Ings may be in contention for a place on the bench at least, whilst Romeu is likely to come straight back in after his one-game suspension.
Looking at how Saints lined-up in their last outing against Fulham, it is clear who both players could replace if they were to come straight back in.
Romeu was replaced by Ibrahima Diallo at Craven Cottage and the France youth international did well in retaining possession and keeping things moving forward when Saints attacked.

In terms of direct fits to Ralph Hasenhuttl’s setup right now though, Romeu looks to be better suited and is crucial to what the team does in midfield areas – retaining possession and winning the ball back quickly when it is lost.
Ings’ place was taken by Shane Long at Fulham and the Irishman struggled to make an impact overall despite finding the net with an offside goal.
Given that Ings has had two injury issues in the recent past, it may be that Saints choose not to rush him back into action right now.
Another week of training would be beneficial – especially with a hamstring complaint that could easily turn into something more serious.
It may be, as mentioned before, that he takes a place on the substitutes bench and comes on if Saints need him. The fact that Moussa Djenepo came on in stoppage-time at Fulham suggests that he may be involved and that could see Theo Walcott pushed into a striker’s role once again.
