Valery Stopped Short

Yan Valery has not featured for his side since the 0-2 home defeat to Arsenal last season. The strong play and consistency shown by Walker Peters has left the Frenchman almost surplus to requirements.

Valery received a surprise recall following a handful of significant injuries. The right back took his place on an inexperienced bench and was sent on with eight minutes to go.

Surely brought on to help hold back the opposition onslaught, the youth academy product would not have expected to have the golden opportunity to wrap up all three points.

From within his own half Stephens spots the run of the substitute and plays the pass. The number 18 turns on the speed and sets off down the wing.

Alison, ops to race well out of his penalty area to face the danger.  Valery looks initially to have the sweeper beaten all ends up as he knocks the ball past his rival and towards the gaping goal.

Sadly, the shot lacked the strength to make it to the net and was instead met by a grateful Liverpool foot.

Although, the evening didn’t see the dream ending he would have hoped for, Yan Valery’s contribution was nevertheless a pleasing one.
