Southampton make the trip to the Midlands on Saturday and will be looking to secure another win to draw level on points with Premier League opponents Leicester City.

Saints sit in seventh position after the most recent win over Liverpool 10 days ago and a second consecutive victory would see them go level on 32 points with the Foxes.

Whilst Saints’ FA Cup Third-Round tie with Shrewsbury was called off though, Leicester came away from Championship side Stoke City with a comprehensive 4-0 win to boost their spirits.

Some talk will be made about the two meetings between these sides last season. Leicester’s famous 9-0 win at St Mary’s was followed up by a 2-1 win for Saints as they bounced back at the King Power Stadium.

Ahead of Saturday’s meeting, there has been some intriguing team news that may provide hints about team selection and how the game may pan out.

More from Saints Marching

In his pre-match press conference on Thursday, Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed that Danny Ings tested positive for Covid-19 after Saints’ win over Liverpool. The striker is expected to return from self-isolation tomorrow but is a doubt for the weekend due to a lack of training.

Positive news comes with the return of Alex McCarthy from his own period of self-isolation and Che Adams from concussion, but Michael Obafemi, Nathan Tella, Nathan Redmond, Jannik Vestergaard and Moussa Djenepo are all set to remain on the sidelines.

Little is known about recent problems for Oriol Romeu and Mohammed Salisu but both could return to the squad on Saturday.

Leicester are boosted by the return of two key players in Jamie Vardy and James Maddison – both of whom scored in that famous win over Saints in 2019/20.

Brendan Rodgers confirmed that both Ricardo Pereira and Cengiz Under are also making progress in their return from injuries, but midfielder Dennis Praet will be out for around three months with a hamstring injury.
