Southampton face the daunting prospect of heading to Manchester City on Wednesday evening and they look to piece together a run of form.

A crucial 2-0 win over Sheffield United on Saturday will have given Ralph Hasenhuttl and his men a real boost but now they take on a City side who were, until Sunday, on a 20-game winning streak.

Confidence can be taken from a few spirited performances and a 1-0 win over the Citizens last season as well as a battling display earlier in this campaign.

Overall though, the task facing Saints looks a tough one and there has been some interesting team news ahead of the game.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Monday, Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed that Saints will be without Danny Ings for around three weeks after the injury the striker picked up at the weekend.

More from Saints Marching

Che Adams and Nathan Tella showed some great form on Saturday and were vital in getting the three points at Bramall Lane, so both may be in line for starts in the next two games.

However, some changes can be expected for Wednesday with Hasenhuttl admitting that there will be “a few changes” to his team to ensure the most important players are fit to face Brighton this coming weekend and then Bournemouth in the FA Cup Quarter-Final.

After only returning from injuries versus Sheffield United, Ibrahima Diallo and Kyle Walker-Peters will need to be assessed and their game time managed to ensure no further issues.

Theo Walcott is expected to be bac in contention after the international break too, but Oriol Romeu, Will Smallbone and Michael Obafemi are all long-term absentees.

Manchester City will have a wealth of options on offer to them as they prepare to host Saints after Pep Guardiola confirmed he has a fully fit group to choose from.

Predicted Saints line-up

Fraser Forster; Jan Bednarek, Jack Stephens, Mohammed Salisu, Ryan Bertrand; James Ward-Prowse, Stuart Armstrong; Moussa Djenepo, Takumi Minamino; Nathan Redmond, Che Adams

Hasenhuttl will be wanting to see a good showing from his side and will not want to be on the receiving end of an embarrassing result, but changes must be made to ensure the injury list does not become too big again.

Jack Stephens and Mohammed Salisu may get a game in defence, whilst Jan Bednarek may have to fill in at right-back once more. Che Adams, Nathan Redmond and Moussa Djenepo will also be pushing for starts with the rotation.
