Southampton striker Che Adams got back to some form on Saturday when he scored a brilliant goal to secure a 2-0 win for his side against Sheffield United.

The 24-year-old will be hoping to carry confidence from a match-defining moment into the coming weeks and his bursts of form have now been hilariously compared by to a ketchup bottle by Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Speaking to the media ahead of Saints’ clash with Manchester City, Hasenhuttl said:

"“Maybe again we have the ketchup bottle phenomenon. A long time nothing, but then maybe everything comes at once. So let’s see.”"

It was not until May that Adams got his long-awaited first goal for Saints – a stunning chip from near the halfway line against this evening’s opponents, Manchester City.

From that moment on, the former Birmingham City man looked a lot more decisive in front of goal and netted a further three times in the final five games of 2019/20.

He and Saints then carried their superb form from the end of last season into the beginning of this campaign and that saw them even spend time at the top of the Premier League table.

Adams was a key par of this rise. His hold-up play and ability to bring other into the game around him was crucial in the fast-paced 4-2-2-2 setup and saw him build partnerships with Danny Ings and Theo Walcott at different stages.

As Saints dropped off though, so did the £15m man’s confidence. He has since had to spend some time on the substitutes bench and even saw the likes of Nathan Redmond and Nathan Tella fielded as strikers ahead of him.

What Ralph Hasenhuttl is wanting now is the return to some form of a key player in what is a crucial part of the season. Saints are seven points clear of the bottom three after their win at the weekend and look to  have their own destiny in their own hands.

Today’s clash with Manchester City is very much a free hit, but Adams can become a real goal threat once again as things build towards a league meeting with Brighton and the FA Cup Quarter-Final against Bournemouth.
