Consistency improved

Consistency may well come with more quality additions and a more even spread of responsibility throughout the squad as a result.

The current players and staff will be looking at what they can do to get things moving forward again next season though – this season, apart from the FA Cup, looks to be a write-off once 40 points is reached.

A couple more losses instead of wins in their otherwise impressive start to 2020/21 would have seen Saints wrapped in the relegation scrap rather than just away from it right now. It is just not sustainable to have runs of poor results like they have had in the recent past.

A big help will be the reduction of injuries. In a post-pandemic world, restrictions will be loosened around the training ground to enable use of the recovery tools at Staplewood, whilst future fixture lists should mean no more consistent three-game weeks.
