An inch away from Glory

Despite struggling to test the keeper consistently, Saints were still a persistent threat. Corner kicks proved an early headache for scrambling Leads defenders.

With usual set piece expert James Ward Prowse serving a three-match suspension, corner duties fell to the often-maligned Nathan Redmond.

It’s fair to say that Redmond’s performances have been forgettable this season. The number 22 put his past efforts to one side, to help make the difference this time around.

The attacker‘s corner balls were on the money as they found their way into the danger zone. The first attempt saw Broja head just wide, while the second proved to be agonising.

The 27-year-old once again produces a pinpoint ball to find the Chelsea loan signing. Broja flicks on towards the Post and succeeds in bypassing a sprawling defender.

Unfortunately, for the visiting defender all he succeeds in doing is laying at the feet of his diving shot-stopper. With Illan Meslier stranded, a touch appear to be all that was needed to make the net ripple.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Elyounoussi has taken the initiative and has leaped towards the ball.

Less than a yard out and on a favourable angle, Elyounoussi  is able to apply the smallest of touches, and ends up in the net for his troubles. Sadly the ball doesn’t follow, but instead lands safely on the other side.

Leeds may have escaped the first half pressure, but the emerging partnership between Nathan Redmond and  Armando Broja would bring about their downfall in the second.
