Grimsby Town star Luke Waterfall believes the Mariners can enjoy their FA Cup clash against Southampton as the pressure will be on the Saints to win.

Southampton are scheduled to face Grimsby in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday, 1st March. They will be keen to qualify for the quarter-finals with a win against the League Two outfit.

The tie will also provide the Saints with an opportunity to bounce back from their 1-0 league loss to Leeds United. It remains to be seen if they will succeed in their efforts to claim a win against the lowly Grimsby.

However, Ruben Selles and Co. have been sent a stern warning by the Mariners defender Waterfall ahead of the tie. He is of the view that the pressure will be on the St. Mary’s outfit to win.

Waterfall is thus positive that Grimsby can take the game to the Hampshire-based club on Wednesday. He appears determined to hand a further blow to the Saints’ season.

"“We’ll definitely be up against it, but all the pressure will be on Southampton as nobody will expect us to turn up at their stadium and come away with the victory”, Waterfall was quoted as saying by GrimsbyLive.“So the lads can go there and hopefully play with a bit of freedom and enjoy the occasion.”“Hopefully, we can put a good show on and try and test them as much as possible.”“We’ve got a hell of a week travel-wise with the next two games as you probably couldn’t get two games being played much further away from each other in such a short space of time.”“It is what it is, it’s part of the job and we’re used to travelling about now so we’ve just got to focus on what we can control and get on with the games.”"

Southampton face Leicester City in the league next

A win against Grimsby would boost Southampton’s confidence ahead of their next Premier League match. They will face Leicester City in what will be Selles’ first home game as the club’s manager on Saturday, 4th March.

Former Saints captain Dean Hammond is positive about the club’s chances of returning to winning ways in the league with a victory over the Foxes.
