Southampton have been linked heavily to Swansea captain midfielder Matt Grimes in recent weeks amidst the imminent arrival of Russell Martin.

The Swans’ skipper was one of Martin’s key players at the club and he regularly operated in the middle of the park at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The 27-year-old joined the Welsh side in 2018 for his second stint at the club and has remained at the club since, working his way up to the captain role.

Grimes played 44/46 games in the Championship for Swansea in the 2022-23 season, producing seven assists in the process.

Grimes could bring some very important Championship experience and leadership to the Saints, and he also embodies the ideal Russel Martin player.

It will be interesting to see if the midfielder with bring an end to his five-year stint in Wales in order to be able to follow his former manager.
