Harwood-Bellis was initially signed by Southampton on a loan move from Manchester City last season to provide more squad depth to the defence. The 22-year-old gave some impressive performances in his first team minutes and quickly formed a reliable centre-back partnership with starting central defender Jan Bednarek towards the second half of the previous season.
Southampton made his loan move permanent for £20 million, which has proved to be a smart decision following the unavailability of captain Jack Stephens due to his red card against Manchester United. Alongside Bednarek, Harwood-Bellis has made several defensive efforts to avoid conceding more goals and even scored two important goals for Russell Martin's side across all competitions.
