Relegation Battle
Despite sacking three managers Ralph Hassenhuttl, Nathan Jones and Ruben Selles, Southampton couldn't avoid relegation in the 2022/23 Premier League season. Further, they made several huge signings such as Paul Onuachu and Kamaldeen Sulemana who haven't enjoyed a great goalscoring form at Southampton so far.
Thus, the Saints know that if they will bring a new manager to replace Russell Martin, they will again have to spend a significant transfer fee in the January transfer window to assemble a good squad in order to better adapt to the new tactical setup. Still, there isn't any assurance that Southampton will avoid relegation which was the situation last year.
