Sunderland shows interest in ex-Saint Duje Caleta-Car, who may complete a Premier League return sooner than expected.

Just hours before, Southampton heard the harsh Shea Charles truth they never hoped for. Now, while it may help the club escape his departure links, the reality check on one of their finest talents will surely bother the fans.

Still, it just shows the competitiveness and quality of the Top Flight, where even the best talents may not feel a fit.

But, being honest, we have seen many cases of not-so-deserving ones striding big moves from St. Mary's. Recently, we had ex-Saints boss Ivan Juric making an Atalanta switch and now, this trend may happen again.

That's because, this time, another former Saints flop, Duje Caleta-Car, is tipped to complete a Premier League return.

Intriguingly, despite having another season to forget, Caleta-Car's fate is on the verge of granting him another Top Flight spell. And this time, it could be at the newly promoted side, Sunderland.

As per Football League World, Sunderland is monitoring Caleta-Car's situation to add him as an experienced veteran to their Premier League inexperienced side. While the center-back's deal wouldn't be cheap, the newcomers may be willing to secure him as a key dressing-room figure.

Caleta-Car's Sunderland switch may bring a smile on Saints fans faces

Honestly, if this rumour goes through, it will surely take an emotional toll on Saints fans, witnessing players gaining chances on the sole account of a previous PL tag. Still, there's a reason why the St. Mary's faithful wouldn't oppose this Caleta-Car to Sunderland move.

Remember how Sunderland's promotion win had Saints fans on multiple expenses? But now, the supporters can avenge if Caleta-Car completes a Sunderland move in a transfer that might not cost below £5m.

This way, Southampton can have a former flop in Sunderland's books, compensating for how the latter ditched them into a £10m Ross Stewart move two years ago.

But, except for that, there's nothing more for Southampton in this potential rumour. While a move can impulsively bring a grin to the fans' faces, there's no long-term association from the deal.
