Europa League record winners Sevilla see Oriol Romeu's availability as an opportunity to get back on track after consecutive miserable spells.

Admit it or not, no Southampton fan has been content since listening to former Saint Oriol Romeu's transfer situation. Well, and they have every reason to be disappointed, seeing the club hero struggling at 33 while ex-Captain Maya Yoshida is still going strong at 36.

But, a major factor that has the supporters optimistic is that it's been more of a competent transfer problem in Romeu's case, rather than finding a new club.

Having a Champions League trophy in his cabinet, along with a prolific profile, Romeu still has everything to bag a top-flight move. And thankfully, a European giant values this, considering Romeu for a move.

Sevilla planning up move for Romeu to return to European status

It's the record Europa League winner, Sevilla, who are interested in taking Romeu off the books from their La Liga counterparts, Barcelona.

As per a recent Fichajes report, Sevilla has Oriol Romeu as a priority name in their wishlist to bolster their midfield ranks. Having seen a decline in their European stature lately, the La Liga side sees Romeu as a game-changing signing for an upturn.

Now, no doubt, Sevilla has been a declining heavyweight, yet the club could be the perfect next destination for Romeu.

That's because, now 33, Romeu has a last chance to see past football with a legacy of helping a club rise back to glory right from the start. Having done this at Southampton for their inaugural European appearance, and being a part of Barcelona's grimmest history, Romeu has an opportunity to go down as a Sevilla hero too.

Saints fans won't forget Carlos Corberan's success story with a relegation side Valencia as he steered them close to European contention. Just imagine if a memorable club hero in Romeu ends up doing the same with Sevilla, who barely escaped relegation last season.

Overall, this Romeu to Sevilla rumour feels more on the club's benefit than the midfielder. But you never know, if Romeu has more to add to his European trophy cabinet at Sevilla, who have been Europa League winners a record six times.
