Former Saint and recent club target Angus Gunn writes off a memorable turnaround, joining a Premier League suit in Nottingham after being a free agent this summer.

Recently, all the buzz surrounding St. Mary's concerns over an unproven backline to start the new Championship campaign. But amidst these discussions, aren't the supporters missing an even more grave issue?

Take, for instance, the mediocre performances of Saints keepers that feel an issue too big to go unnoticed. Having conceded in all the friendlies, except the one against their ally Valenciennes, both Gavin Bazunu and McCarthy haven't stood up to what's expected from them.

Yet, even more than on them, it has been a blunder on the Saints' management part who decided to proceed with Bazunu despite his poor Championship record and all the initial fan fears. And while they are bound to face the repercussions of this call as the season begins, the criticisms have begun to be dwelt on.

That's because, in case you remember, Southampton had been rumoured to call back ex-keeper Angus Gunn for a long while this summer. But for some reason, the Saints hesitated, joining in Gunn's previous club, Norwich's actions, who had left them for free earlier in this window.

Angus Gunn makes a Premier League return at Nottingham Forest

Well, in a surprise no one would have seen coming, Gunn is here to write the perfect comeback story as he completes a Premier League move within months of being clubless.

Recently, Fabrizio Romano confirmed the keeper's Nottingham move, saying: "Nottingham Forest agree deal to sign 29-year-old goalkeeper Angus Gunn. Former Norwich GK joins Nottingham with immediate effect."

Definitely, Gunn won't be there giving a rigorous battle to Matz Sels but sporting former Arsenal understudy Matt Turner's gloves is a triumph in itself. One, where shot-stopper's graded superior to him keep crying out for an opportunity to make it to the Premier League.

And just look at a strange coincidence, Gunn had unceremonious exits at all of Southampton, Norwich and Stoke City. Yet, he is more likely to keep a handful of clean sheets much quicker than any of his past employers' trio does.
