Arsenal's Hall of Famer adamant to swoop second Saints flop after Cornet

For the second season running, Southampton are actively working on offloading Kamaldeen Sulemana. However, their key to success may lie in drawing parallels to another flop winger Maxwel Cornet's departure.

Southampton fans know they can't cover up the horrible season they have witnessed but don't you think the Saints harboured a bittersweet relationship with Arsenal all year long. Whether that be Aaron Ramsdale's marquee addition or Paul Merson's annoying claims about wishing for Southampton to get humiliated every time they entered the pitch.

We all can admit to this after all, proving his matchday thoughts wrong was in itself a sense of victory. And when the Saints felt like sneaking a point from Arsenal, the entire fanbase didn't forget to downplay the visitor's pride.

Amidst all these off-field rivalries, there was a crucial helping hand from Arsenal's Hall of Famer Patrick Vieira too. Although that was mediating a solution to relieve Southampton from flop loanee Maxwel Cornet, it was a pivotal move to free up a spot from the attacking roster.

Sulemana can repeat the Maxwel Cornet transfer again

But Vieira may not be done assisting the Saints because Corriere Dello Sport believes that Kamaldeen Sulemana could also trace Cornet's winter steps soon.

That means all the cold responses Southampton received for the 23-year-old could have been avoided had they listened to Vieira earlier. It's disappointing to say, but this example again goes to show that an advice received from an all-time great shouldn't be taken with a pinch of salt.

Anyways, the board must switch to a transfer friendly stance in the summer, else, regretting upon another missed Sulemana opportunity may bring a wave of criticism from fans as well as rival pundits.

Let's hope, Southampton keeps these potential hindsight thoughts in mind, and even adapts to a lowball strategy if that can accelerate Sulemana's much-needed exit.
