Championship club can secure 17-year-old prodigy despite Southampton's £2m bid

Norwich City can catch Southampton off guard as they might sign Andre Garcia whom the Saints even tabled a bid for in January.

Not ignoring Southampton's right-back mess, but the left side of Still's four-man defence looks healthy both in options and the presence of reliable Championship aces. Now, Ryan Manning will be picked by the fans to begin the first stretch of the season, to then, shuffle the fullback pack if needed.

Yet, it took only one fine Eastleigh weekend for Still to give a left-back run to everyone except Manning, and bring unnecessary uncertainties down there. And that's when both Charlie Taylor and Welington have a large portion of convincing to do in Southampton's colours.

Now, this worry couldn't have even been a talking point at present had Southampton succeeded in their £2m Andre Garcia approach.

Sothampton must figure out their fullback plans

The Saints haven't hidden their penny-pinching strategies during buying defenders, so, the fans can be curious why they didn't show this enthusiasm on other targets. And why go far when Southampton's Andre Garcia pursuit has itself been put on an untimely hold.

Maybe the club has forgotten about that deal but their rivals are not far away from reminding that, in an unpleasant manner. According to an EFL Analysis report, they have touted Garcia to become an essential cog in Norwich City's fresh squad rebuild.

Nowadays, it's the Canaries' local neighbours Ipswich Town who are Southampton's biggest hindrance on the promotion path but a Norwich side that were playing the Premier League as recently as three years ago can't be ruled out easily. Especially, when teams like Coventry City are also in the mix, who too defeated the Saints for promising wingback Kaine Kesler-Hayden not long ago.

Agreed, the fanbase shouldn't undermine the current roster's potential but letting go of high calibre fullbacks can cost Southampton a handful of valuable wins next season.
