Frank Lampard secures the upper hand for £3.5m must buy Saints target

Previous Saints coaching target Frank Lampard has claimed the upper hand on another of Southampton's preferred signing candidate Kaine Kesler-Hayden.

Southampton fans, like other club fanbases, aren't renowned for handing a warm welcome to their opponents and rival bosses. It's quite understandable but Frank Lampard can be the one receiving praiseworthy fan recognition when he steps into St. Mary's despite belonging to the opposition camp.

Due to the simple fact that respect goes both ways and the Chelsea legend displayed those gestures by honouring the Saints job instead of downplaying it. Maybe, that's the reason he never hesitates to shortlist players whom Southampton's transfer chiefs also rate highly.

That will be confirmed only if he instructs his Coventry City side to someday push Southampton up for a transfer battle. No doubt, that will be interesting to see but Lampard's recent move will surely disappoint a large section of the Saints faithful.

In his own words, journalist John Percy said: "avfc defender Kaine Kesler-Hayden is set to sign for Coventry City for a fee of around £3.5m."

Saints may regret missing Kesler-Hayden opportunity all summer

Well, the actual concern behind the fan frustration is because of Southampton's half-hearted efforts to land Kaine Kesler-Hayden all along. Since last week, they were notified about Kesler-Hayden's soon-to-be ending chase, yet didn't bother to roll up their sleeves and act faster.

For the long run, the fans know that a decent fullback target is already cross-marked but when the next one will come can't be said. It could take a whole month for the board to seriously consider their right flank again and it's no secret that August is the busiest period in the entire window.

Then, it's setting up for a bid-fest anyway where presenting offers greater than £3.5m will invoke the Kesler-Hayden fan laments all over again. Hopefully, Southampton does acquire new wingbacks to solidify their feeble defence.
