Jan Bednarek has officially become an ex-Southampton star but his overall displays including the final one against Manchester City will forever be cherished by the Saints fanbase.

A whole weekend dedicated to Jan Bednarek's next club guesswork, still, Southampton fans have been left undone by reality. Now, the Saints might use the top five European top-flight rumours as an excuse to justify their wrong Roma speculation because their occasional armband holder's new home hails from the seventh-best league across the continent.

In his own words, Fabrizio Romano revealed it's Porto instead saying: "Jan Bednarek to FC Porto, here we go. Deal agreed for the defender to join on four year contract. Transfer fee worth €7.5m, as O Jogo reports. Agreement done."

Well, some transfers always assure Saints they'll happen someday or the other and then there are the ones that slide in to the forefront without much whispers. This Bednarek one was a mix of both worlds.

Saints kept Porto off from Taylor Harwood-Bellis but not Bednarek

Coming to the 29-year-old, he was starting games without stressing about the competition calendar and four promising defenders being scouted inside two summers weren't going to be his competition either.

Thus, letting go of someone as dependable as Bednarek was an unnecessary sacrifice from Southampton but persistent bidders can't be resisted on every occasion, right?

They were adamant on snapping up Taylor Harwood Bellis for their backline about a month back, which is all the more telling as to why they doubled down on his centre-back partner, Bednarek. Plus, did you observe something about Bednarek's final competitive clash for Southampton?

A huge round of applause to you if you guessed it, that nervy Manchester City game which will always stand out as the silver lining of his Saints career. Lastly, let's wish him luck, success and most importantly, a fit and fine campaign to prepare well for next year's World Cup.
