A 1-0 win over German second division side Eintracht Braunschweig on Friday followed last weekend's 3-1 victory over Eastleigh back in England.
That gives Tonda Eckert two wins from his first two games back in the dugout.
The goal arrived in a first half that the head coach felt produced the better football.
Flynn Downes slipped a pass to Lewis Dobbin, who sent the American forward Downs clear.
Downs rolled the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper before slipping past the final defender and passing into an empty net.
Eckert plays down the fitness worry
Some supporters look at a short summer and wonder whether players will be ready for competitive football. And last season got off to a sluggish start after a poor pre-season.
Eckert does not share that worry.
"I think that we'll get more than enough minutes under the belt to be ready for the cup and then ready for Watford," he said.
His side used two separate teams across the two halves. That handed 45 minutes to 22 players in total.
On the opponent, Eckert noted their quality on the ball forced his side to work harder than planned.
"It's good to see that the boys put in a shift and come away with a clean sheet," he said.
Why the calm tone stands out
Southampton begin the new season in the Championship. They start on minus four points after the fallout from last term.
A view put forward before the Eastleigh friendly argued that pre-season carried more weight than a normal summer.
The deduction leaves less room to drift through the opening weeks, which is why the friendly schedule looks so purposeful.
Eckert appears to be holding both thoughts at once.
He wants his players sharp for Colchester in the Carabao Cup on August 8. That test comes before the league opener at Watford, which follows on August 16.
The camp in Germany runs for another eight days and includes two more friendlies, one behind closed doors and the other away at Preüßen Münster next Saturday.
The opening days of this pre-season had already offered a first look at the players back in training at Staplewood.
Germany is the next step up from those sessions.
The German camp has opened with a win and a clean sheet. Eckert wants that calm to hold all the way to Watford. Whether the German will be in the dugout by the time the opening day of the season rolls around at Vicarage Road is anybody's guess.
