Southampton winger Ryan Fraser has gone mostly missing in the 2024/25 season so far. Positively, Fraser still considers a comeback possible as he hopes to mark his injury return soon.
Don't tell me you have probably forgotten about Southampton winger Ryan Fraser. How can one? After all, Fraser was such an integral piece of the Saints' promotion-winning team last season.
Despite this, honestly, the Scottish International hasn't done enough for the fans to have a memorable memory of him this season.
Post-promotion, Fraser joined Southampton permanently but, the move hasn't proved fruitful so far. Quite contrastingly to his debut season, the 30-year-old has gone missing in the 2024/25 campaign.
Now, say it is because of insufficient opportunities or suspensions, Fraser has had a meager 10 appearances only.
If that felt less, the growing prominence of his position mate Kamaldeen Sulemana has subdued his case further.
Still, on the brighter side, Ryan Fraser believes a comeback is possible. Though, currently sidelined due to injury, the winger has promised to return to his best fitness soon.
Ex-Bournemouth hero eyeing Southampton comeback after missing Southern derby
Speaking on Southampton's Early Door series(via the Daily Echo), Fraser said: "I should be back soon. Hopefully the calf settles down a little bit and I can get back to what I enjoy doing."
Certainly, this statement shows a lot about Fraser's not giving up easily attitude. But despite this confidence, a chance for him might be rare.
This is because of the winger's limitations in boss Ivan Juric's Southampton attack setup. Put up clearly, Fraser's physical abilities don't make him a go-to option in a double striker formation any day.
Moreover, Southampton's Bournemouth matchday has been over as well. Having been a part of the Cherries for long, Fraser might have been a handy option for Juric, but he wasn't available then.
Overall, Ryan Fraser's comeback feels significantly complicated. Still, it's never over in Football. Who knows, taking inspiration from wingmate Sulemana, he might emerge as a key player for boss Juric after his injury return.
