Former boss Ronald Koeman's best wishes inspires Southampton to a Barcelona-like fightback in the challenging Championship opener.

Admit it or not, but we all Saints fans were biting our nails until Ryan Manning launched that revival free-kick into the Wrexham net. And thankfully, what could have been a shocking disaster, fueling up the Saint critics, ultimately ended in all smiles.

Now, it would be unfair not to credit this victory to boss Will Still and the side's part, but fighting back from the most Southampton situation to one of the club's best comebacks, seeks an influential touch.

Don't scratch your heads further, Saints, as that helping force has been of ex-boss Ronald Koeman's well-wishes.

Koeman indirectly influences Southampton's Barcelona-like fightback

Recently, before the Wrexham kickoff, Koeman sent his heartfelt blessings to Southampton for their promotion push. But the fact that they translated to reality this soon will have everyone surprised, too.

In his own words, Koeman said: “Still looking forward to Southampton, and I hope they will come back to the Premier League very soon, but good luck for that, and once again, thank you so much.”

Honestly, if Koeman listens to the recent Saints comeback, the manager would be proud for sure. But would it shock him? Not at all. Having grown tired of watching his previously coached Barcelona side pull jaw-dropping comebacks last season, this Southampton victory feels just a leaf out of the Spanish giants' heroics.

Yet, this in no way undermines Will Still's Saints side achievement. In fact, apart from the recent win, the St. Mary's faithful will definitely hold pride in how their former duo, boss Ronald Koeman and midfielder Oriol Romeu, played a part in Barcelona's journey to success both in La Liga and Europe.

Well, it won't be an understatement to say that Southampton got the perfect opening matchday flavour, not easy, but it gave them a win. The next up is Northampton, and the hope remains for the Saints to annihilate all those unfavourable forecasts on the field.
