Former Southampton flop is somehow one win away from Europa League glory

Former Saints flop Kevin Danso can add the inaugural silverware to his trophy cabinet by defeating Man United in the Europa League Final.

With the Top Flight campaigns concluding across Europe, football fans are next in line for the European competition Finals. And the first of them being the Europa League showdown scheduled between two Premier League clubs, Tottenham and Manchester United.

Interesting, isn't it, with two bottom table clubs representing the PL in an esteemed European competition? But what's even more baffling is that in this Final, a former Southampton flop might kickstart his trophy count.

It's ex-Saint and currently Tottenham Hotspurs defender, Kevin Danso.

Danso's struggles might reward him with Europa League trophy

Well, for Southampton fans, the former defender's memory has been of just another flop, yet for Tottenham's current project, Danso feels irreplaceable. But between these two designations, there stood 5 years of the player's career timeline.

Having been labelled a Saints flop in the Ralph Hasenhüttl era, Danso returned to Augsburg in June 2020. But while this felt like a stark rejection from Southampton, it changed his career trajectory completely.

Kevin Danso saw another loan to Dusseldorf before leaving for Lens in Ligue 1, that was a game changer for him. Spending 4 years at the club, Danso's brilliant performances earned him a Tottenham loan move this winter.

Sad to admit but in his Premier League return, Danso's Spurs displays have reminded Southampton of their huge transfer mistake of not trusting him big time now.

Well, here he is now, competing for a European Title when Southampton barely dodged the tag of the worst PL side ever this season.

That being said, like former Saint Nathaniel Clyne, Kevin Danso, too, is likely to celebrate a potential Europa victory from the bench only. Unless boss Postecoglou prefers a major centre-back change in the Finals directly.

But even then, if Kevin Danso marks his career's first silverware with a Europa League win, he's sure to be remembered as a hero in Tottenham's history. A hero amidst a struggling season that helped them break their 17-year-long trophy drought.
