Former Southampton director Jason Wilcox is plotting a move for promising gem Harley Emsden-James which can be a slight positive for the Saints in the Tyler Dibling transfer deal.
Over a year ago, Southampton's former director Jason Wilcox swapped the Saints project for a tempting one at Manchester United. Now, whenever key decision makers jump ships to other clubs, there is always the scary likelihood of bringing more top talents along with them.
For almost an entire season, that didn't happen. But it seems like Southampton's transfer luck could only do this much favour to them before turning for the worse.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, it's familiar face Jason Wilcox plotting a move for one of Southampton's finest defensive prospects, Harley Emsden-James. Though the report mentioned a £1m paycheck lies in store for the Saints, it's merely a transfer consolation.
Emsden-James transfer could prevent helpless Dibling scenario
In reality, Southampton are parting ways with another talented prodigy who could have helped the club's U21 and even first team squads in the future.
Honestly, that's a lamentable move but at least there's one optimism for Southampton. A few months ago, Wilcox was toying with the idea of luring Dibling to Old Trafford which could easily have convinced Dibling to pack his bags at Southampton.
Later, Southampton would be left with no other choice than to accept any low-price offer Manchester United made, else, they had the risk of Dibling departing as a free agent in two years time.
So, by picking Emsden-James, there are less chances of the Red Devils revisiting the Saints for their transfer shopping in this same summer.
Talking about defenders, Southampton have secured the signature of Joshua Quarshie which should hopefully be enough to improve the youth squad. There is enough time for another centre-back signing and even some fullbacks, so, let's see if that's on the club's immediate priority list or not.
