Former Southampton tactician Mauricio Pochettino has recorded an unwanted misery in the United States team's history books.
During this offseason, international football is providing some much needed on-field action to football fans. Most notably, with today's Nations League final where unfortunately no Southampton player is involved in either of the finalist's camps.
Agreed, that's a hard pill to swallow but it shows the bitter truth about Southampton's standing in club football. Anyway, there are still a few familiar faces to keep an eye on during the friendly games but they are also enduring a tough time as things stand.
One of them is former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino who has been trying his hand in international coaching for the United States.
Pochettino gradually facing a race against time to improve present form
As expected, Pochettino started in his usual victorious self but nowadays things aren't going as planned for the gaffer who once steadied Southampton's Premier League ship over a decade ago.
Now, in case you don't know, a tricky Gold Cup assignment awaits Pochettino but there are growing doubts as to whether the trophy is also in store for them or not. Talking of the initial signs, they aren't impressive as today, his United States squad ended up on the receiving end of a courageous Turkey comeback.
Plus, this dull result has brought an unwanted stain on Pochettino's tactical legacy. As pointed out by Sports Illustrated, the former St. Mary's fan favourite has overseen a hat-trick of defeats which no other United States manager did for around a decade.
With the calibre of players present at his disposal, Mauricio Pochettino can easily turn this bad form around.
But that needs to be done quickly otherwise, patience might start running thin among his employers and the Saints hero might be handed his marching orders without even completing twelve months in the role.
