Goztepe's Romulo transfer stance will delight Southampton's board in many ways

Goztepe holding out for a mammoth transfer fee for Romulo can give Southampton added time to weigh in a bid and can fend off rival competition to some extent.

Roughly ten days ago, Southampton fans would be lying if they didn't admit feeling betrayed by Goztepe's transfer activities. The two clubs had always sought to benefit each other from their alliance which made the Turkish side's open Romulo stance look annoying from the Saints point of view.

But with the second week of July underway, Goztepe appears to be correcting its initial mistake. Now, they haven't dismissed the possibility of maintaining transfer talks with some of Southampton's English rivals but their new plan for the 23-year-old Brazilian will delight their Championship counterparts.

In his own words, journalist Felipe Silva clarified Goztepe's current approach, saying: "The Turks are in no rush to negotiate and aim for the biggest sale in the club's history. Romulo has reported back to Goztepe for the upcoming season and awaits the outcome of the negotiations."

Saints can bide their time for a future Romulo move

Well, the fans must take care of one important aspect which is that Southampton won't have any portion of a transfer windfall coming their way. Simply, because the scouting and signing part was done by Goztepe, so, the Saints can only get key recruitment takeaways from them at best.

However, Southampton getting a longer timeframe to make up their mind on signing Romulo is the real deal here. A need for fresh legs in the attack might arise in January where the Saints can snap up the in-form attacker on a loan plus clause related buying option.

Yes, the price point may cover the majority of Southampton's future transfer budget but that simultaneously brings a chance to sell at a double or triple price down the line.

Therefore, the board must remain attentive to the developments around Romulo's future so as to shift this rumour to their liking in the best way possible.
