Ivan Juric wishes to acquire Evan Ferguson even now when the 20-year-old forward had a forgetful loan during the Croatian's short Premier League spell.
One month from now, Damion Downs will have experienced playing in a Southampton shirt for the first time and hopefully, the fans will be raving at his first showing. Now, having a potent goalscorer way before the Championship's league phase begins is an absolute bliss but the Saints must not forget to credit their timid January business for it.
Else, they might be operating on a shoestring budget for the forward department had they shelled out a significant sum to refresh their attacking talents six months back.
Not to forget, some of those market options were outright risky propositions where Southampton's frugality saved them transfer funds and more on-field stress. One of them was Evan Ferguson whose appeal was enough for him to claim the starting place in the Saints' eyes over every frontman the club had during the winter.
Honestly, whether the board decided to back off from that idea due to his growing transfer race or some playstyle doubts is still unclear, but missing out on the Irishman never felt remorseful.
Juric isn't giving up on Ferguson's poor form
Ferguson couldn't open his scoring account there, and his brief outing against Southampton never provided any Saints fan with some food for thought over the past speculations.
Also, that fixture may have gone unnoticed by Ivan Juric who was the head coach when Ferguson's excitement was building up among the St. Mary's faithful. Still, his profile doesn't seem lacking applause from the Croatian even at present.
Noting a report from Gianluca Di Marzio, Atalanta BC News said: "Brighton's Evan Ferguson, Udinese's Lorenzo Lucca and Lyon forward Georges Mikautadze are all candidates to replace Mateo Retegui at Atalanta reports Gianluza Di Marzio."
Agreed, Kamaldeen Sulemana won't be fixing each and everyone of Juric's issues but keeping tabs on Ferguson, a player who was a shadow of himself in a better team than his former employers Southampton, is quite puzzling.
Plus, relying on him for the Champions League tasks might be keeping too many expectations from the very beginning, but again, Juric has mostly got it right in Italy and let's see if he stands up to his reputation.
