New Southampton youngster, Victor Udoh, who was signed on transfer deadline day, has officially made his debut for the Southampton U21 side.
Despite boasting many more attacking options than their Premier League rivals this season, it is the quality (not quantity) which has been an issue for the Saints. After all, we are accused of having Championship options up front, rather than Premier League quality.
The momentum of this slightly changed when Paul Onuachu was introduced to the starting lineup. This came hand-in-hand with Ivan Juric being the manager since Russell Martin hardly used the Nigerian striker.
Well, now Paul Onuachu has some company in the Southampton ranks from his countryman, who might have the vision to play alongside Onuachu one day, either internationally or domestically.
If you couldn't guess, I am referring to Victor Udoh. The young attacker was signed by Southampton on transfer deadline day and he is hoping for a bright future in red and white.
Late Southampton signing makes his first big step in a Saints shirt
According to Alfie House of the Daily Echo, Udoh has already taken his first big step since joining Southampton at the beginning of this month. Indeed, the 20-year-old made his first start for the Southampton U21 side, who cruised past Maidenhead U21 in the National League Cup.
Udoh started on the wing for the young Saints team. Despite the scoreline being 6-0 in favour of Southampton, Udoh did not make the score sheet. Nevertheless, it was a brilliant first step, so soon into his Southampton career.
Southampton fans are not naive enough to expect Udoh to come in and completely change the course of their season. Indeed, it would take an incredibly established player at the top of their game to do that, not a 20-year-old prospect.
However, this is no disrespect towards Udoh, who certainly has a promising Southampton career ahead of him. Coming through the Royal Antwerp academy, Udoh is held in high regard in Belgium.
In truth, after signing his first professional contract, Udoh had an incredible time for the Young Reds Antwerp team; here, he scored 12 goals in 27 games.
So, what's next for Udoh? Well, he might have his eyes on the upcoming Premier League fixture against Bournemouth. With Onuachu serving as the senior attacker, Udoh does have the potential to play in the centre of attack too. Therefore, there might be a place on the bench for Udoh.
Udoh did not feature on the bench for Southampton's FA Cup outing in Burnley. However, he didn't miss much...
