Major League Soccer derby hero makes eager claim before Saints greet Portsmouth

Southampton's centre-back icon Maya Yoshida levelled the share of points in July's Major League Soccer derby and has now dropped an eager Southampton remark ahead of the Portsmouth fixture.

In the hour of derbies, motivation can be taken from any famed rivalry. Be it from Ligue 1 where Will Still is taking game-deciding notes on avoidable mistakes, or from former stars who shone higher when the neighbouring clubs were also gathered on the pitch.

After all, the atmosphere of rivalries has dimmed so low in the Southern derby that it's no harm in learning the balance in other intense contests across the country.

Stepping outside English football, there are numerous divisions with quite a lot of rivalry tales to tell, but you know a 3-3 result in them is sure to demand attention from even the most casual Southampton fans. As a basic briefing, that game was this Major League Soccer season's esteemed city clash between LA Galaxy and LAFC.

Saints must use Yoshida's recent derby performance as Portsmouth inspiration

Had additional time not been a concept in football, the latter would have clinched the three points but up stood Southampton icon Maya Yoshida to give some significance to Galaxy's goals in terms of points.

Now, when Southampton fans have a bit of wavering confidence in a Pompeys win on home soil, the Japanese defender has sparked the eagerness to a level where it should be before welcoming Portsmouth.

As quoted by the Daily Echo, Yoshida made an enthusiastic claim saying: "I was waiting for a long time, we were all waiting for a long time, and we won by a lot, which was very great memories for the club and for the fans."

Can a Southampton player rain in some added-time goals like Yoshida, in front of Portsmouth? It will be satisfying for St. Mary's if it happens, but let's hope the final result speaks a Saints win only.
