Premier League's bottom side, Wolves, have been touted to try their hand at the free agent pool with ex-Saints midfielder Oriol Romeu emerging as a possible recruit.

It's been a week since the Saints felt violated by Robert Lewandowski, but being honest, his words have just proved truer. With Southampton slipping to the 15th position, the Saints got humbled by Lewandowski again, who scored twice in Barcelona's 6-0 win against Valencia.

Now, undeniably, there exists a fraction of Saints who would have relished seeing their former managerial target struggle finally. But sadly, there's little hope for Southampton even in this tally, given Barcelona's 6-0 thrashing came against ex-star Romeu's old camp.

Harsh as it sounds, lately the Saints and clapbacks have been a little too perfect a match. And what's next in line for the fanbase, maybe witnessing Romeu complete a Premier League return before them, and yet ending up with the most Saints' fate.

Well, all because of Wolves, who, after enduring a miserable Saints' 2024/25-esque start this season, can become the third English employers of Romeu. Having lost 4 out of 4 games, it's more than obvious that Wolves' side demands a change, and as per the Birmingham World report, Romeu can be their go-to man for the task.

Romeu tipped to mark another successful Premier League spell

Honestly, it's hard to guarantee that even after a successful Wolves' spell, Romeu continues in the Top Flight next season, but still, it's a challenge he should definitely sign for.

Yet to get the ground running this season, Romeu direly needs playing time, if he's to avoid racking up another premature retirement in the Saints' heroes list. And impressively, his previous inaugural full-season English spells must motivate him for it.

Having hit his trophy-laden phase with Chelsea during the 2011/12 season and rising to the status of a club hero at Southampton later, Romeu has had some memorable Premier League full-season spells. Add to it his ever-fighting spirit, and there's simply no way as to why the midfielder can't shine at Wolves.

Still, the reality is that all these speculations remain a rumour until Wolves or any other suit barges in to sign Romeu on a free transfer. Let's hope it happens soon for the unforgettable Saints hero.
