Southampton came away from Birmingham with a point after the substitutes turned the game on its head at St Andrew's tonight.
Tonda Eckert threw up a surprise before kick-off, leaving Léo Scienza out of the starting eleven and selecting Jay Robinson instead.
Finn Azaz filled Scienza's position on the left side of the attack while Robinson lined up on the right.
There was nothing to split the teams in terms of possession in the first-half although Birmingham created the greater number of chances.
Both sides managed two tame shots on target apiece before Paik Seung-Ho saw his free-kick beat Gavin Bazunu only to crash against the top of the bar.
Half-Time: Birmingham City 0-0 Southampton
Birmingham got their noses infront when a sloppy pass out of defence by Harwood-Bellis put Jander under unnecessary pressure, forcing the German midfielder to commit a foul. Southampton failed to deal with the resultant free-kick and, after a series of headers and blocks, Phil Neumann looped his header over Bazunu and in off the underside of the bar.
Three of the Southampton substitutes combined to score Southampton's equaliser. Cameron Bragg slid the ball inside the full-back for Elias Jelert who crossed for Cameron Archer to guide the ball home from close range.
Birmingham City 1-1 Southampton
Goalkeeper and Defenders

Gavin Bazunu (GK) - 7/10 - Had two soft shots to deal with in the first half and could only watch on as Paik Seung-Ho's free-kick crashed against the top of the bar just before the break. Flapped a little at Neumann's looping header when conceding the opener but made a fantastic save to deny Stansfield's shot from range a few minutes later.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis (RCB) - 5/10 - Not as tidy in possession as he has been recently. Gave the ball away sloppily leading to the free-kick from which Birmingham scored the opener. Had a close range header well saved early in the second half.
Nathan Wood (CB) - 5/10 - Left for dead by Kyogo early on and must have been grateful to see the Japanese striker lift his shot over both the goalkeeper and the crossbar. Booked needlessly for bringing Kyogo down clumsily before the break.
Jack Stephens (LCB) - 6/10 - Better in possession than he was at Oxford. A solid performance from the captain.
Midfielders

Tom Fellows (RM) - 5.5/10 - Pinned into his own half by Birmingham's Jay Stansfield early in the first half but got further forward as the half progressed. Withdrawn just before the hour mark.
Flynn Downes (CM) - 6/10 - Should have received a yellow card midway through the first half when his tackle on Stansfield was overly forceful.
Caspar Jander (CM) - 6/10 - A good first half in and out of possession. Pressed the Blues' midfielders well when they were playing out from the back.
Ryan Manning (LM) - 5.5/10 - A willing runner up and down the left flank but Southampton's most wasteful passer of the ball.
Forwards

Jay Robinson (RF) - 5/10 - Effective in tight areas in and around the edge of the box. Didn't get on the ball often enough to cause significant damage.
Adam Armstrong (CF) - 6/10 - Led the line well but failed to convert two half-chances in the first half. Withdrawn after an hour.
Finn Azaz (LF) - 5/10 - Should have done much better with an early chance from close range and was largely anonymous in the first half afterwards. Looked more threatening when moved to the right side in the second period.
Leo Scienza - 6.5/10
Elias Jelert - 7.5/10
Cameron Archer- 7/10
Cameron Bragg - 7/10
Kuryu Matsuki - N/A
