Southampton had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Nathan Jones’ Charlton Athletic, despite spending the majority of the game on top.
Visitors Charlton scored with just their second shot on target, after Ross Stewart scored with an impressive headed effort in the first half.
It’s a result that the Saints will feel hard done by to come out with just one point, and sets them back to four points off the play-offs.
Goalkeeper and Defenders
Daniel Peretz (GK) - 5/10 - Southampton’s goalkeeper didn’t have an awful lot to do, but perhaps could have done better with Sonny Carey’s attempt from the outside of the box that made it 1-1.
James Bree (RB) - 7/10 - Yet another decent game for Southampton’s right back, who had a total of five shots in the game but failed to score. A solid performance, and Bree looked like an attacking threat, too.
Taylor Harwood-Bellis (CB) - 7/10 - A good game for the centre back, who nearly played Tom Fellows through on goal with a couple of searching passes in the first half. The 24-year-old is forming a decent partnership with Jack Stephens.
Jack Stephens (CB) - 6/10 - A solid game from the Saints skipper, who finished the game with an impressive 97% pass completion rate from 74 passes.
Ryan Manning (LB) - 5/10 - A commendable effort for Manning, who stepped in with the absence of Welington. Not much to shout about, but no errors were made in the game.
Midfielders
Flynn Downes (CM) - 6/10 - Another decent performance from Saints’ midfield general, who formed a partnership with Shea Charles well, which hasn’t always been the case. His influence decreased when Charles was replaced by Caspar Jander in the second half.
Shea Charles (CM) - 7/10 - Charles was good in his first league start since injury. The Northern Irishman played a good 65 minutes in a more advanced role before being rested for the final half hour.
Attackers
Tom Fellows (RW) - 5/10 - Not one of Tom’s finest games. He often delivered with his trademark stepover and cross with the right foot, but these crosses lacked direction. The potential is there!
Finn Azaz (AM) - 5/10 - A poor game from Azaz, who lacked influence and struggled to make a real impact in a game where chances of finding and operating in the half spaces were at a premium.
Leo Scienza (LW) - 8/10 - A recent drop off of form from the Brazilian didn’t matter; class is temporary. A great cross to assist Ross Stewart’s goal - and a top game in general for Scienza.
Ross Stewart (ST) - 8/10 - With Cyle Larin breathing down his neck for a starting spot, Stewart proved why he is so important to this Saints team with a great looping header - if only he had been fit all season!
