Portsmouth hero tempted to succeed former Saint Russell Martin as new boss

One of Portsmouth's finest attackers Jermain Defoe has put forward his temptation to earn the keys to Rangers, old Southampton tactician Russell Martin possessed.

From April to June, Southampton fans thought the wrongs of Premier League could be corrected with a couple of good nights against Portsmouth. A four-month skip to now, October comes with a tough cookie to chew, how the team is parked behind the Pompeys?

I agree that the mid-week spirits should not be spoiled in the Southampton fanbase, there's a full first-team handling that part. However, noticing managers inflicting widespread shame from Portsmouth to St. Mary's is all the more ridiculous.

Now, Russell Martin getting terminated from Rangers is a stale development and the new chitchat is over the one who is tempted to carry over from where Martin left. Not in a horribly performing sense, though.

Ex-Portsmouth man Defoe allured with taking Russell Martin's seat

He is former Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe, whose Sky Sports opinions were quoted by The Scottish Sun: "I've done all my coaching badges and if I got an opportunity to come back to that club to help this group of players then it would be a no-brainer."

Beneath this eager comment is a growing reality of an ex-Pompeys star ousting a likeable figure at St. Mary's. What a declining status does it portrays of Southampton in a foreign division.

Still, Defoe doesn't has to meet the net's corners with his finishing at Ibrox and neither will he be dished out the paperworks solely for specifying his heartful comments on the position. If the latter is no hindrance, then also, Defoe needs to fill Rangers' calendar with triumphs and not to mention, some silverware too.

They don't fall on every boss' court, hence, Defoe might also get sacking chants until next January like Martin had to listen for a good amount of months.
