The decision to bring new loan signing Lesley Ugochukwu didn't work out well, and the on-loan Chelsea star didn't manage to provide defensive solidity to the team. Martin decided to substitute Ugochukwu at the beginning of the second half, and brought 28-year-old box-to-box midfielder Joe Aribo in the central midfield role.

Aribo completed 30 out of 32 passes in the match and gave an all-round athletic display to win the ball possession multiple times. Further, Aribo also helped Southampton in advancing the ball further down the pitch, and was reliable in defence as well.

After being out of the starting lineup since the Brentford defeat, Aribo has been improving his performances in his limited playing time as a second half substitute.
