This week, Southampton will face Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United in a home fixture at the St. Mary's Stadium in the Premier League. So far, they have faced three consecutive defeats from their first three games and thus, Russell Martin's side need to start taking some points in the Premier League to avoid being in a relegation battle towards the end of the season. Thus, a much improved performance from the Saints is needed against the Red Devils, who also haven't had a convincing start to this season.

Manchester United won their first game against Fulham with a narrow 1-0 win in the last minute of the match. However, in the next match they faced a 2-1 defeat against Brighton alongside a 3-0 defeat against Liverpool before the international break. Therefore, it’s a significant game for Erik Ten Hag's side as well, who want to return to winning ways after this match.

Now, Premier League legend and former Southampton star Alan Shearer has revealed his predictions for the game and suggested a draw, saying,

"Southampton have been struggling to put the ball in the back of the net and finishing the chances they’ve created.

That's where they have to improve massively. I think Man United have been average so far this season. I'll go for a draw."

Shearer highlighted that the Saints need to improve their finishing as the Southampton attack has missed a few big chances despite not creating many goal scoring chances inside the final third. Ben Brereton Diaz and Adam Armstrong missed some huge chances against Newcastle United and Brentford, which kept the Saints from taking any point from the match. Further, the defensive mistakes need to be improved and Russell Martin's side need to implement their tactics well and display an impressive performance in this match.
