After the international break, Southampton have shown a lot of progress in their overall performance and against Ipswich Town in the home fixture, built on their good momentum after winning the Carabao Cup third round match. Sensational talent Tyler Dibling gave the Saints an early lead inside the first five minutes as Russell Martin's side looked to improve their performance after the Manchester United match, where they played well for half an hour but couldn't score any goal. The Saints went into halftime with a 1-0 lead but could have doubled that with a better finishing inside the final third.

In the second half as well, Southampton showed an impressive display and aimed to get their first points of the Premier League season with a win. However, that wasn't the case and Ipswich Town captain Sam Morsy took an attempt on goal from outside the box which reflected and found the back of the net. Although Southampton took a first point in the league after four consecutive defeats, they couldn't manage to keep a clean sheet and secure the 1-0 win which could have boosted their momentum for the remainder of the season.

After the match, former Wales defender Ashley Williams analysed the equalising goal, saying,

"I’m not sure why there isn’t a Southampton player there. You always have at least one player on the edge of the box.

I can see why Russell Martin is disappointed because they get the first contact but then they don’t do enough after it."

Moreover, Williams highlighted that Southampton need to be making good decisions in these key moments in order to avoid relegation this season. Also, there are some lineup changes expected in the Saints attack as they have only scored twice in five Premier League matches and now Cameron Archer is also struggling in front of goal similar to Ben Brereton Diaz and Adam Armstrong.
