Recently, Turkish club Goztepe were said to be interested in signing Southampton's 30-year-old forward Paul Onuachu in this transfer window. There are still a few days left in the transfer window in the Turkish league and thus, newly promoted side Goztepe want to bolster their attack with the signing of the Saints centre forward. Onuachu arrived at the St. Mary's Stadium on the final day of the January transfer window in 2023, for a transfer fee of £18 million from Belgian side Genk.

At that time, Southampton were involved in a relegation battle and former manager Nathan Jones convinced the club to bring the Nigerian striker at the club. Onuachu was expected to replicate his impressive goal scoring displays in the Premier League after scoring 16 goals for Genk in the first half of that 2022/23 season. However, Onuachu struggled to adapt to the Premier League and couldn't find the back of the net in fourteen league appearances for Southampton as they were relegated at the end of the season.

In the following season, Onuachu joined Turkish side Trabzonspor on a season long loan move and scored fourteen goals in twenty league matches for the club, helping them to a third placed finish in the league table. Now, according to reports from trusted journalist Fikreet Gul, Trabzonspor have reached an agreement with Southampton to sign the centre forward on a permanent basis in this transfer window, saying,

"Trabzonspor reached an agreement with Southampton for the transfer of Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu. €8.5 million (£7.1m) transfer fee. 3 year contract."

Although signing Onuachu wasn't a great decision, however, the Saints should sell the striker to raise transfer funds for a few signings in the January transfer window. Moreover, the Saints are giving more chances to their talented young stars who can play a key role for the club as Russell Martin's side are aiming to stay in the Premier League after this season.
