Paul Merson predicts another defeat for Southampton against Ipswich Town
By Aakash Desai
After a thrilling Carabao Cup win against Everton in the third round, Southampton aim to continue their good momentum going as he prepare to face Ipswich Town in the third home fixture in the fifth Premier League matchday. Also, the Saints will face another newly promoted team, Ipswich Town who finished second in the Championship last season to achieve a direct promotion. However, the match will be a balanced one considering both sides are yet to take their first win in this season with Kieran Mckenna's side coming on the back of two encouraging 1-1 and 0-0 draw against Fulham and Brighton.
On the other side, Southampton have faced four consecutive defeats in the Premier League and were defeated by Ipswich Town twice in the Championship. Thus, Russell Martin's side will have to put up an all-around performance in this match, both in defence and in attack to take their first three points of the league. In the Premier League, both sides have conceded a lot of goals and have mostly struggled to find the back of the net, thus a draw seems a highly likely outcome.
Paul Merson predicts another defeat for Southampton against Ipswich Town
However, talking about this match Premier League analyst Paul Merson has recently predicted Kieran Mckenna's side to take a 2-1 victory, saying,
"Southampton are getting a bit predictable and that could hurt them. This is their best opportunity to get the first three points of the season.
- Paul Merson
I just think Ipswich hold the edge here. They are a better side in transition and have the firepower to hurt Southampton."
Without a doubt, Southampton need to improve their build up play from the defence and organise a reliable defence to take a clean sheet in this match. Further, it remains to be seen whether Cameron Archer will again be in the starting lineup as Adam Armstrong and Ross Decent looked in fine form against Everton recently. Moreover, if the Saints take a win in this massive fixture, it will inspire them to make a comeback in the Premier League after an underwhelming start and achieve a mid table finish in the league.
