Recently, Southampton took a massive win over Everton in the third round of the Carabao Cup, winning 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 score at fulltime. Last season's star player Alex McCarthy gave a match winning performance for the Saints with three saves in the match alongside saving Ashley Young's penalty to help Russell Martin's side advance to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. This is an important win for Southampton who haven't had a great start in this season upon their return to the Premier League.

Further, the previous Manchester United match highlighted Southampton's struggles as they missed a penalty and further conceded three goals despite a brilliant performance in the first half an hour of the match. Hence, this win against a Premier League side can be the key for the Saints to overcome their underwhelming Premier League start and return to winning ways again as they want to avoid getting relegated this season.  Speaking after the win over Everton, manager Russell Martin expressed how this performance can help Southampton to start taking points in the Premier League.

In the upcoming fifth matchday, Southampton will face newly promoted side Ipswich Town in another home match and Martin hopes that his team will put a similar improved performance and take their first league win, saying,

"I hope so. What we learned was actually for half an hour we were brilliant against Manchester United.

Then we have a disappointing moment and it completely derails us. Tonight we didn't. We had a tough moment conceding and then they responded brilliantly."

Martin also highlighted that Southampton are trying to improve their mistakes from the 3-0 defeat against the Red Devils, and are focusing on giving their best throughout the match. Now it remains to be seen whether the Saints will take a win against Ipswich Town in the home fixture at the St. Mary's Stadium.
