After the international break, Southampton prepared to face Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United in a home fixture at the St. Mary's Stadium aiming to give a great performance and take their first point of the new season. Southampton got off to a brilliant start and were awarded a penalty in the first half when Diogo Dalot brought down Tyler Sibling inside the box. Cameron Archer stepped up to take the penalty but his attempt was saved by Andre Onana that proved to be the turning point of the game and the Red Devils scored thrice after that to take a convincing 3-0 win.
It wasn't a great first Premier League start for Archer, who had been performing well in the U21 side and even scored an important brace in a 5-3 win over Cardiff City. Now, manager Russell Martin has opened up about Cameron Archer and that missed penalty, saying,
Russell Martin speaks about Cameron Archer's missed penalty against Manchester United
"Cameron's missed a penalty but he's a striker, he's playing in a position where he'll miss chances, maybe some in big games at points in his career.

Your response to disappointment is the most important thing. I think it's brilliant learning for him and we have a really top young talent in our hands and it's up to us to manage him."
As highlighted by Martin, Southampton and Archer both have got a huge learning from the match as overall, the team couldn't keep their momentum going when they conceded two quick goals before halftime. Archer needs to focus now on improving himself from that match and perform much better in his first team opportunities and if he does that, he will very soon score his first Premier League goal as well. Signed from Aston Villa's academy for £15 million, Archer has huge potential and he needs to learn from his mistakes and give an impressive display in the upcoming matches.
