In this summer transfer window, Adam Lallana made his Southampton return after ten years, when he joined Liverpool after making more than 250 appearances for the Saints. Recently, manager Russell Martin revealed that Lallana wanted to retire at the St. Mary's Stadium and thus, made the decision to join Southampton after leaving Brighton on a free transfer. Lallana played his first Premier League match this season in the 3-1 defeat against Brentford in the third matchday in an away fixture.
The 36-year-old midfielder registered an assist on Yukinari Sugawara's goal which was Southampton's first goal in the league. Now, the international break has arrived which will give Southampton more time to improve their tactical setup and make some necessary changes to their lineup in order to start taking more points in the Premier League. The UEFA Nations League has started and England will start their group stages against Republic of Ireland in the first match.

Also, the England national team will be led by interim manager, Lee Carsley who became the head coach of England after former manager Gareth Southgate left his managerial role this summer. Southgate took England to back to back finals in the UEFA Euros and guided England to a semi final in the 2018 FIFA World Cup as well. Thus, Carsley will need to build on England's improved performances in the recent years and he is expected to lead the national team to an international trophy as well.
Now, Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana has spoken about Carsley, saying,
"As a coach, he has a soft side to him, he is caring and, simply put, he is someone you want to fight and do well for. There is no doubt in my mind that he is the best candidate to succeed Gareth Southgate in the long term."
- Adam Lallana
Lallana has previously worked under Carsley's management last year for the England U21 team and believes that Carsley is a great replacement for former manager Gareth Southgate. Now, it remains to be seen whether Carsley can guide England to the upcoming UEFA Nations League triumph.
