Southampton prodigy has made an impressive start for the youth team

Southampton have a lot of talented young players in their squad. Several of them such as Samuel Edozie and Shea Charles have joined a new club on a season long loan to continue their development in order to become quality Premier League players. Alongside them, some promising players have been turning heads with their performances in the youth teams.
One of those is new signing Romeo Akachukwu, who joined the Saints youth academy from Waterford in this transfer window. Playing in the Premier League 2, the young midfielder prodigy has made an impressive start for Southampton's U21 side in the new season. In his debut, he scored the opening goal in a 2-1 win over Premier League 2 Champions Tottenham Hotspurs to register a massive win for Southampton.

He was rewarded with a first team debut against Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup where he started the match for Russell Martin's side. His rapid adaptation to the U21 squad has been remarkable, and his coach Simon Rusk praised the 20-year-old, saying,
"I'm not surprised. He's a good player and we've brought him here for a reason. It's good for him that he's made that start.

Further, Rusk also said that several young players are performing well for Southampton's youth teams and this is a great thing for the Saints in the long term future. Trusting and giving more game time to the younger players in the team is a part of the Saints long term plans to bolster their squad and become one of the best teams in the Premier League. Therefore, Akachukwu's great start to the new season has excited Southampton fans and the expectation for him is to become a key player for the Saints in the upcoming seasons.
