Southampton have faced three defeats in the Premier League after achieving promotion from the Championship a few months ago. The Saints have started their league campaign with an aim of staying in the Premier League at the end of the season. Russell Martin's side signed fourteen new players and sent several young players on a season long loan move trying to assemble a quality squad to perform well in the Premier League.

However, the start hasn't been convincing, and after the international break, Southampton need to take some momentum in order to start winning more games and avoid any relegation battle towards the second half of the season. Now, former Aston Villa striker Tony Cascarino has named new signing Aaron Ramsdale to become an important player for the Saints this season. Speaking about Southampton, Cascarino said,

"They can dominate a game with possession, look good, but they are conceding too many chances.

Ramsdale, to me is their most important player and that’s why they have spent such a big fee on him, it’s going to be how Aaron Ramsdale does."

Southampton already had first choice goalkeeper Alex McCarthy who made impressive saves in the Championship last season for Russell Martin's side. However, in the first two matches, McCarthy couldn't keep a clean sheet as Southampton were conceding a lot of attempts on goal, thus, made the decision to sign Ramsdale, who has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League in recent seasons. Ramsdale also spoke about his role at Southampton recently, and added that he is improving on his passing and distribution from the defence, which is a key part of Southampton's possession based tactics.

Despite a good performance on his Saints debut, Ramsdale conceded three goals in an away fixture against Brentford. Now, Southampton will face Manchester United in the Premier League at home where Ramsdale will aim to keep a clean sheet in his first home match at the St. Mary's Stadium.
