Predicted Southampton lineup as Southampton visit Birmingham City tonight

Southampton travel to Birmingham City tonight as they look to reverse their poor form away from St Mary's. Who will be in Tonda Eckert's starting eleven?

Tonda Eckert is unlikely to make any changes from the side that took the field against Oxford United on Boxing Day.

Léo Scienza was not withdrawn early for any other reason than protecting his fitness and should start at St Andrews.

The Head Coach has done nothing to suggest that he will make significant changes but Welington, Joshua Quarshie, Oriol Romeu, Jay Robinson, and Cameron Bragg could all be in contention for a start if the German coach makes significant changes to his formation which is unlikely.

Southampton predicted lineup: (3-4-3)

Goalkeeper and Defenders

Goalkeeper - Gavin Bazunu: Bazunu's place in the squad remains under the spotlight as the January transfer window approaches. The keeper was clearly at fault for the second goal and the sooner Southampton find a quality replacement the better.

Centre-Back - Taylor Harwood-Bellis: Southampton's best player against Oxford United. Harwood-Bellis is the only one of the centre-backs capable of playing in a back three aside from Ronnie Edwards who has been inexplicably left out in the cold by Eckert. Harwood-Bellis proved against Leicester City and Oxford United how important he can be at both ends of the pitch.

Centre-Back - Nathan Wood: It doesn't seem to matter how badly Wood plays under Eckert, the coach will not drop him. It would be a surprise if the boss drops him tonight.

Centre-Back - Jack Stephens: The captain played well in the home fixture against Birmingham but his performance at Oxford United could make him vulnerable to being dropped again in favour of Joshua Quarshie who impressed against Coventry City.

Midfielders

Right Midfield - Tom Fellows: Fellows is clearly working his way back towards full fitness and that showed at Oxford on Boxing Day. Expect the former England Under-21 international to start tonight but 70 minutes could be all that he manages.

Centre Midfield - Flynn Downes: Needlessly booked at Oxford United and replaced by Oriol Romeu in a significant substitution. Reading between the lines, Romeu could be putting Downes under pressure for a start.

Centre Midfield - Caspar Jander: Jander is likely to start at St Andrews tonight but expect his minutes to be managed given Southampton's run of fixtures.

Left Midfield - Ryan Manning: Manning let far too many crosses come in against Birmingham at St Mary's and his selection could be a mistake. Welington is a superior defender and should start instead. But he won't.

Forwards

Left Forward - Léo Scienza: The Brazilian is the first name on the teamsheet and fans can expect him to start again at Birmingham. Inexplicably withdrawn early against Oxford before the game was won; a decision that probably cost the Saints all three points at the Kassam.

Centre Forward - Adam Armstrong: The Championship's leading scorer has drawn a blank for three consecutive games and missed another sitter at Oxford United on Boxing Day. Given Southampton's lack of centre-forward options, he will continue to start despite a run of poor form.

Right Forward - Finn Azaz: Azaz could be under pressure from Jay Robinson for a start against Birmingham City but Eckert is unlikely to reward the youngster for an eye-catching impact from the bench at Oxford.
