Manchester United aim to take over Southampton's Idrissa Gueye interest, days after landing old Saints target Bryan Mbeumo.

Admit it or not, Southampton fans, all of us have been annoyed by the club's full-back recruits' failures this summer. But while the Saints' defensive rebuild has been lacklustre, it has clearly overshadowed their poor winger signing approaches.

If you remember, Southampton's interest in a wide attacker stemmed just after the winter transfer window. But initially rejected by Solomon, the Saints' approach has been far from successful, just going downhill with time.

Well, that's what feels like repeating, as a Premier League side is on its way to overpowering their latest Idrissa Gueye contention case. It's a known name in Manchester United, who can inflict the second transfer defeat on Southampton after winger Bryan Mbeumo's summer signing.

Recently, L'Equipe confirmed Man United's pursuit of Gueye, as they have been tracking the teenager's developments quite closely over these months. And while they have got some competition in Borussia Dortmund, the Red Devils possess enough financial power to direct Gueye's move to Old Trafford.

Man United's Gueye approach comes as blessing in disguise for Saints

Honestly, this update would have the Saints fans annoyed, as they fear losing another winger after long-standing target Mbeumo to Man United. Yet, what they must realise is that a defeat in Gueye's transfer race could be the Red Devils' biggest present to them.

It's because while the 18-year-old's profile is impressive, no Saints fan can deny the massive question mark his £18m asking price presents. And while Southampton has earned a name for going all in on young talents, Gueye's case lies far from a considerable risk for the club.

That's why Man United's Gueye interest comes as a blessed warning in disguise for Southampton not to continue recruiting big-money flops. But what's better? The Red Devils' previous Tyler Dibling pursuit guarantees them having enough funds to outplay the Saints on transfer bidding for Gueye, ultimately ending their contention completely.

Well, this Man United intervention must come as a timely reflection for the Saints, who need to avoid poor recruits rather than new forward signings now. Let's hope things proceed this way only.
