Rangers are close to hitting a double transfer blow to Southampton as they advance on signing Jesurun Rak-Sakyi after finalising Saints wing target Djeidi Gassama.
Like it or not, but this last week has made Saints fans revisit Southampton's Russell Martin removal last year. And that's been for Rangers' recent UCL qualifying leg 1 win, which clearly has them as a well-drilled side than the Saints, who lost to Espanyol yesterday.
Well, to top it off was Djeidi Gassama's winner in the matchday that must've had Saints wondering as to why they never went all in for the winger.
But what's intriguing? After pulling off Gassama from Southampton's radar, ex-boss Martin's mission to assemble a better wing presence than the Saints in his inaugural Rangers' transfer window is still on. And the next name on his list is long-standing Saints target Rak-Sakyi.
Russell Martin's Rangers imminent to finalise Rak-Sakyi's signing
That's because, having awared the Saints of the harsh truth, Martin's Rangers are one step away from securing Rak-Sakyi. Recently, journalist Alan Nixon updated on the situation as the winger's head is inclined towards Rangers, and The Gers are likely to seal a deal with Crystal Palace soon.
Honestly, seeing another potential wing signing slip away to the Rangers in the same fashion is cruel for the fans, who are helpless. But put this in perspective for a second, that Russell Martin is outplaying Southampton's moves with a transfer budget just over what the Saints received for Sulemana's sale.
And the comical part? It won't be too surprising if the ex-Saints gaffer exploits Rak-Sakyi's talent in a fashion that he ends up scoring more than all current Southampton wingers and Kamaldeen Sulemana combined.
Well, this realisation does nothing except make Saints fans ponder what if they stick with Martin for another couple of months. While he couldn't have avoided a relegation, chances are that he might've fielded a better attacking lineup, from the transfer funds obtained from Onuachu and Sulemana's sale, than the current setup.
