Saints intend for second signing from Belgian team who stood firm to Celtic

Following Victor Udoh's February signing, Southampton are weighing up a second forward addition from Royal Antwerp.

As the new football calendar sets in, clubs like Strasbourg will want to hit top form and earn a place in European competitions. Their newboy Samuel Edozie will be cheering for his future club, who has fueled their recent surge largely on former Saints like Sekou Mara and Sam Amo-Ameyaw.

In return, Southampton do hire players from top-tier sides abroad and Belgian giants Royal Antwerp have been a key talent hub for a fair duration now. Victor Udoh was picked up when the winter window rolled in, and now, it could be an attacking teammate settling at St. Mary's.

According to a report from Top Mercato, Michel-Ange Balikwisha is the one garnering Southampton's curiosity for an August swoop.

Capturing Balikwisha will require sticking to Antwerp's fee benchmark

Judging his profile, Balikwisha is a Kamaldeen Sulemana-esque quick footed winger but with a superior attacking output. Thus, he has clear merits to be slotted straight to the starting eleven but the Saints would be wise to sidestep a common mistake big clubs like Celtic have made for the 24-year-old.

That's bargaining with Royal Antwerp, as Glasgow World have mentioned about a £5m price-tag which is considered non-negotiable.

Well, take any of the sales Southampton have wrapped up from Paul Onuachu's to Jan Bednarek's and every one of them can itself pay for the Belgian wideman's recruitment.

The main worry is Saints sluggishness, because they have dragged on many transfers this time around. The past is behind us, and it's apparent that Jay Robinson appears primed to deliver against Wrexham.

But Ipswich Town could be a steep ask, so soon, and that date should be underlined as a strict timeline to acquire Balikwisha.
